DIY Wedding Series: Photo Tie Patch
Welcome back to my DIY wedding series! Today I will be sharing how I made a photo tie patch for my father-in-law!
For this project, you will need:
- Glossy photo paper (I used 4x6 A-SUB Premium Photo Paper Satin)
- Printer
- Canva (it is free)
- A tie
- Hot glue (or glue of choice)
- Paper cutter or scissors
To begin this project, you want to measure the bottom diamond of the tie. It should be about 2 inches. This will be the measurement our photo needs to be. Insert your photo of choice into a blank Canva document. In the "Crop" section, change the aspect ratio to 1:1 and rotate 45 degrees. The photo should now be rotated and a square shape in the document. Rotate the photo again 45 degrees, but in the document this time. Then shrink the photo until the width and height are both 2 inches. You can do this by dragging the corner of the photo. Adjust the photo in the "auto crop" section to make sure it looks how you want. The picture should be shaped like a diamond. Download and save the document as a PNG. Print the photo based on what is best for your printer and paper size you choose.
These were my printer settings:
- Paper size: 4x6
- Paper type: card stock (for some reason this is the best color turnout for my photo paper)
- Photo size: full page
- Page margins: normal
- Fit: fill page
You may need to make test prints to make sure it's accurate and that the picture stays at a 2:2 ratio.
After printing, cut the bottom part of the diamond shape. Then place it on the tie to see where you need to cut vertically. You can technically cut the entire diamond shape, but I like to leave extra paper at the top because it feels more secure. Trim down the photo vertically as much as you need. Once the photo fits, you will want to hot glue it onto the tie. You can use other glue too if you prefer. After that, you are done!
This is such a sweet and sentimental gift for any father figure in your life. It makes it even more special that they can wear it on your wedding day! We made this as a thank you for helping out with our wedding. My father-in-law loved it, and I know any special man in your life will too!
